Facts Interfering with Charlie Baker's Worldview

In Charlie Baker's World, sometimes there are unfortunate interactions with people from the real world like this one with Erica calling into the Dan Rea show.

Baker (calling from Charlie Baker's World)

"Let me ask you a question Erica. There are lots of people..in local government and there are lots of people in the private sector who took big reductions in their salary and their wages over the course of the past two years. Big ones. I know cities and towns where people negotiated 5, 7, 8 percent reductions across the board in what people have gotten paid. I know people who have lost 10, 15, 20 percent of what they were getting paid in the private sector. Do you know anybody in the in state government that actually was negotiated through a reduction of anything like that?"

Erica (calling from the real world):

"Absolutely, I was."

Baker (calling from Charlie Baker's World)

"Ok, well that makes you the exception to the rule."

Erica (calling from the real world):

"I took a pay cut and I witnessed management take extensive furloughs and I think everyone has been hit. We all sort of understand that. So yeah, I did."

Baker (calling from Charlie Baker's World):

"Ok, well I think that makes you...I'm glad that you did that and I think that makes you the exception to the rule. Based on my understanding on what took place."

In Charlie Baker's World, if you don't understand a fact, it is ok to make up your own story.

After Charlie Baker helped drive Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare into the ground, after Charlie had to allow state receivership of Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, after the State of Massachusetts infusion of money into Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, and after Harvard Pilgrim Health care tripled their rates; Charlie Baker, (whose salary had been a half million dollars a year) "retired" and collected more than three times that money, (1.7 million dollars.)

How much of that was state bailout money, derived from our taxes? How much of that was from increased fees to policy holders and how many people had to give up their health insurance, because they couldn't afford the increased premiums, increased co-pays amd reduced coverage of health insurance any more?

Republicans are always hypocrites when it come to this stuff, Mr. Kenney.

Is it any surprise that Half-Baker would be any different?

Welcome to Charlie Baker's World

Welcome to Charlie Baker's world: a tongue-in-cheek look at a special place where Charlie Baker can use "facts" that aren't true; a place where, when things don't go well, it isn't his fault or he wasn't involved; a place where anything might happen.
