As the school year begins, it is time for another lesson about how math works in Charlie Baker's World where a dozen equals thirteen and 2.5 equals 0.5. Hmmmm --Let's begin, class.
Charlie says we need to cut taxes - lots of them - $2.5 Billion of them, actually! Find out how many more after the jump
He says it is good for us and don't worry he's figured out how to pay for them - with thirteen reforms that Mass Taxpayers Foundation's Michael Widmer estimates might add up to $500 million. Charlie calls the thirteen his "Baker's Dozen."
There's some pretty funky stuff in that Baker's Dozen. Things like forcing families and children to shiver on the sidewalk on a cold winter's night until they can prove residency at the homeless shelter.Heartless, you say? That's nothing. Wait until you see his proposal for "forensic lifestyle analysis" before you're deemed worthy to get unemployment benefits! Yikes!
Check out what cartoonist Dan Wasserman thought about it:
Harsh though they might be, he can't take any of them off the table. He's already trying to get the real world to believe that you can cover $2.5 billion of lost revenue with $500 million in cuts.
With Charlie Baker's World math, you need to set aside everything you learned in 5th grade math.
Once you do that, it makes sense.
